She certainly has the medals to back that claim up.
For one, Rudman was one of five runners to compete in both the mile and two mile events, races that were separated by just an hour and a half.
team leader in cross country next year. ". It was a little bit lonely."
But in solidarity accomplishments are amplified, the spotlight a brighter shade.
And those photos are soon to have company. Rudman is, after all, the Daily News Female Track Athlete of the Year.
The mini shrine doesn't include the dozens of medals she's acquired through swimming yes, she is a three sport standout and smaller long distance races that occupy a different portion of her room, but next to the cross country medals is her front page photo spread com memorating her Cross Country Female Runner of the year award.
Knowing her times along with every other competitor in the fields would suffer due to the conditions, conditions Rudman called "rainy, windy, miserable and cold, just unrelenting," Rudman focused solely on her competitors.
But when you factor in the circumstances surrounding the 15 year old's dual medal effort, the already impressive feat reaches new heights.
Added up, the two medals set her up to be named Daily News Girls Cross Country Co Runner of the Year, which for any freshman would cap off a banner year.

If the pressures of competing as a freshman weren't enough, Rudman also faced the daunting, uphill climb of representing an entire school.
The switch proved seamless, Rudman not skipping a beat from the rigors of 5K running to the challenges of navigating the 3,200 and 1,600 meter races. That much was evident on May 3 in the 3A Track and Field Championship, where Rudman fought through blustery condi tions to finish with a pair of sixth place medals.
"Freshman or not, my goal was to medal which is top eight and I finished sixth twice," Rudman said. "I was happy."
"It wasn't just about me. I wanted to represent the school well"
The two medals collected at the state meet have found a good home: Right next to her pair of cross country medals in her room.
"I was actually kind of sad because I was hoping some of my teammates would be able to go along with me," said Rudman, who was voted to be a Converse All Star White Price
And of the five runners to spread their talents thin across the pair of races, Rudman was the only freshman. For comparison, three of the aforementioned quartet were upperclassman. And the other was a sophomore who finished outside the top 10 in both events. Not only that, but she was the only freshman to medal in either race.
In November, Rudman shed the confines of her freshman label to finish 10th at the 3A Cross Country Championship. Her time of 18 minutes, 42.68 seconds was not only the best showing among the 27 freshman in the field, besting the nearest ninth grader by 35.99 seconds, it was good enough to help lead the Vikings to a program best second place finish at state.
But Rudman is no ordinary freshman. She had a new path to blaze, swapping the rough trails of cross country for the smooth terrain of the track.
Life in the fast line can sometimes be just that: lonely.
Rudman met and then exceeded her expectations with a sixth place time 5:17.58 in the mile and sixth place showing of 11:29 in the two mile.
And as we've come to learn about Rudman, prep's biggest stage brings out the best in her.
The only Viking to make the state cut, Rudman entered the showcase just as determined to run for the name on the front of her jersey as herself.
good, so I tried to aim more for place," she said.
"I was just exhausted," said Rudman, whose said her goal next year is to run under 11 minutes in the two mile and break 5 minutes in the mile. "I was soaked and it was miserable because it just didn't stop raining. The wind on one side of the track you could barely run it was so windy. But the two mile was especially hard because it was eight laps after I had already ran the mile."
But paired with her school loyalty, the feat took on added meaning when considering the context of the field.
It's a look the long distance running community has come to know well. And it's a look that represents the future of the sport in the Daily News' coverage area.
